in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian

This website provides a focal point for the Mental Health at Work Initiative and has been designed specifically for employers. This initiative has been funded by Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian as part of the Opt>In Programme. It aims to serve as both a guide and a resource, providing advice on a range of related topics including:

  • Advice on recruiting people with mental health problems.
  • Meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
  • Forming relationships with support organisations.
  • Links to services and resources to support your organisation including local training providers.
  • Supporting staff who develop problems with their mental health.
  • Access to best practice for your company's general policy on mental health.

Based in Edinburgh, the initiative has been created in recognition that mental health is a significant dynamic within the modern workplace. Mental health problems have the potential to raise very complex human resource and legal issues for employers.

Further to this is an understanding that the workplace can present many difficult issues for people with a history of mental health problems. Therefore, employment can only become accessible and sustainable through the commitment of employers to understanding their needs.

For further information on the initiative, please contact Chris Scott (Tel: 0131 539 8051).

This website acts as a signpost to other experts in the field and information/links will be updated regularly.
